Central square containing applied shapes in different printed cottons, including a branching tree in a pot, leaves, flowers, hearts and birds. This is surrounded by large pieced blocks of squares which form a diagonal lattice effect, and a border of triangles. The fabrics in the central area date from the 1820s, whilst the outer pieced squares frame dates from the 1840s. There is a cross stitched name and date 'I (heart shape) M March 8 1844'.
