This satin quilt was made by Hannah James in 1955/6 with material bought specifically from Lewis’ in Swansea. It incorporates the traditional Welsh hand quilted motifs of the beech leaf around the outside, and has a central rectangle of diamond infill. The main panel is edged with a deep frill, and the quilt contains a blanket for wadding. Hannah spent most of her life in a small village called Godre'r graig, near Pontardawe in the Swansea Valley. This quilt is a typical example of the type of satin quilt popular in the early post war years.
