We are thrilled to announce the forthcoming exhibition, QUILTS: Resurgence - Selected from The Quilters’ Guild Museum Collection, which will feature at The Granary Gallery in Berwick-upon-Tweed in Autumn 2021. The exhibition is a collaboration between Heather Audin, curator of The Quilters’ Guild Museum Collection, James Lowther, Head of Visual Arts at Berwick Visual Arts and internationally renowned quilt artist Pauline Burbidge, who has co-curated and chosen the pieces on display. The exhibition explores the revival of quiltmaking, showcasing the wealth of contemporary work that has developed over the last four decades, and examining the rich historical practise that has been their foundation and inspiration. With historic treasures placed alongside cutting-edge contemporary work, visitors will be able to appreciate the rich, strong roots of quiltmaking as well as how contemporary artists have moved beyond those conventional styles and boundaries to create new work as an expressive, communicative art form.

There is no better person to co-curate this exhibition than Pauline Burbidge, whose international reputation in the quiltmaking world is well known. Her own career has spanned the same timeline as the contemporary resurgence explored in this exhibition, and her work, represented in public and private collections across the globe, is cutting-edge contemporary, with a constantly evolving style based firmly on traditional quilting heritage.

The Granary Gallery, managed by Berwick Visual Arts is a fantastic exhibition space in the heart of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which exhibits modern and contemporary art and craft from the best regional, national and international art collections.

The exhibition will run from 23rd of October 2021 until February 2022 (end date to be confirmed).
