Travelling Trunks
The Travelling Trunksare suitcases containing patchwork and quilted textiles from The Quilters’ Guild Collection. These can be hired by quilt groups for meetings or area days, and are an interesting way to find out more about the history of patchwork and quilting by accessing historic pieces from our handling collection. The items in the suitcase all have labels and can be used in a ‘show and tell’ format, or arranged to form a small exhibition featuring some hanging pieces and some smaller samples displayed flat on a table.
The Trunk themes are:
Textile Treasures: Contains treasured objects from the 19th and 20th centuries that have been kept and preserved for some reason - whether through a family connection, for reasons of nostalgia or because the fabrics have been treasured in spite of the item being unfinished.
Textile Traditions: Contains a range of objects that represent the wide variety and development of styles and types of patchwork and quilting from the 19th and 20th centuries. Explore examples of mosaic patchwork, wholecloth quilting from different geographical areas and typical late Victorian styles.
