Diamond medallion top made from different colours and patterns of roller, block and plate printed cotton fabrics. The diamonds are all hand pieced over 'scrim' (a type of open weave fabric) templates rather than papers, which remains intact. The top contains an equal mix of furnishing and dress fabrics which have all been dyed with natural dyes and mordants, and include madder red, Indigo and Prussian blue, greens made from yellow over Indigo and Prussian blue, copper green and manganese brown. Very little yellow survives in the top. There is one early linen block print which dates to the late 18th Century, but most date to the 1830s and 1840s.
