This pictorial quilt consists of 12 Cambridge scenes arranged in a square around a quilted Cambridge Coat of Arms. The makers of each block have signed their name at the bottom of their scene. The background is Cambridge blue and the pictures have a cream background. The quilted border is based on a design from King's College Chapel.
Unlike many of the historic signature quilts, this piece was not made as a fundraiser. Instead, it was a collaborative group quilt made within a local community. However, it does still echo historic pieces by providing a social record of the makers, which in this case is the Cambridge Quilters.
The Cambridge Quilters: Betty Greenvelt, Gilly Newberry, Jean Amsden, Deirdre Amsden, Urszula Thomas, Margaret Nimmo-Smith, Sylvia Reglar, Jeannie McMeakin, Bridget Long, Joanna Richardson, Wendy Philips and Ursula Simons. Work organised by Ursula Simon. Blocks assembled and quilting marked by Urszula Thomas.
The Quilters' Guild Collection is held by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
