Frame quilt made from a range of printed dress and furnishing cottons with four central block printed panels which are repeated at the corners of the third frame. These panels have a wreath of flowers surrounding a pictoral design of gothic ruins and trees on a brown background.
246cm x 292cm
Printed panels were most popular in the early 19th century and could be sold individually to provide a centrepiece for a quilt, cushion or other household furnishing item. In the centre in red cross stitch is 'J H Thorne September 3 1824'. Unfortunately there is no information about the maker, although it is thought to have been made in Tunbridge Wells.
The Quilters' Guild Collection is held by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
