This red corded quilted coat is made of hand spun and hand dyed silk, and is said to have been made in Damascus by Armenians for the original owner. This style of coat was worn as a loose robe for social occasions such as visiting bath houses. Traditionally, these garments were not usually lined, but Western buyers preferred lined garments, so these were added for the tourist market.
