This multi-coloured and pale turquoise rayon coverlet has a pieced bouquet of flowers in the centre surrounded by other floral images in the outer border. It has the maker's initials and dat "MP 1951" in the bottom right hand corner, and the design represents the four seasons in the garden. The maker, Myfanwy Pryce, was born in 1890 in North Wales, and developed a love of flowers and gardening from her mother Margaret, the daughter of Lydia and Hugh Davies who were reputed to have made the Small Frame Coverlet.
Myfanwy became a popular romantic novelist in the 1930s. Her books include, ‘The Wood Ends’, ‘The Wild Oats’ and ‘Lady in the Dark’. Her coverlets are heavily influenced by her passion for flowers.
