Appliqu Frame Coverlet with a central motif of a Red Manor House surrounded by flowers and domestic/rural animals. The subsequent frames are divided into squares, with each one containing a different appliqu motif including flowers, plant pots, animals and houses. Each appliqu motif has decorative herringbone embroidery stitch to cover the edges and each square is surrounded by a printed cotton border. The outer border is a woven striped cotton and the coverlet is backed with white linen.
The family that this piece came from were thought to have emigrated to South Africa, which could account for the appliqu lions motifs. Prior to this, they lived in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire.
This coverlet was purchased with generous donations to the Conservation Club Fund.
