This small frame top is one of a number of quilts made by the family of Myfanwy Pryce (author). This top is made from printed cotton rectangles in a frame layout, with alternate plain and patterned fabrics used withint the frames.
The top is one of two items that are reputed to have been made in the family timeline of Lydia and Hugh Davies, who were given their Uncle’s drapery shop at No. 9 Pier Street, Aberystwyth. It is likely that this top, and the other family piece made at the same time (Small Frame Coverlet), was made from remnants of fabrics left over from their shop. This piece contains fabrics that date from the 1840s, as well as some later fabrics added at a different time.
