Two crazy patchwork blocks made from silk, satin and cotton, with the seams embellished with embroidery stitches. One is plain crazy patchwork, the other (pictured) has a central fabric which is a Cigarette silk by the B.D.V Cigarette company, with a printed image of the Japanese flag. There are also 17 small pieces of the same fabric which have green animals including a kangaroo, a kiwi-type bird and a leaping deer/springbok. The same fabric also has a piece which shows a boat and a red cross, and most of the pieces have Maltese style red crosses on them.
These two pieces were made by George and Elsie Wood, and were said to have been made around the 1890s when they were aged 8 and 10 respectively.
