Barn Raising arrangement of Log Cabin patchwork, made from printed cottons with red and black polka dot centres. The coverlet is backed in Turkey Red Paisley print cotton, and has a frill on all four sides from the same fabric.

The Coverlet was made by Elizabeth Scott of Selkirk for her daughter, Martha Hogg in 1860. Martha married a tailor, who was distantly related to James Hogg, the 'Ettrick Shepherd' who is now recognised as an important Scottish writer and poet, and who had a close relationship with Sir Walter Scott.
