This intricately embroidered crazy patchwork jacket was made by Winifred Childs for her eldest daughter, who wore it to a tennis club dance on her first date with her future husband. The jacket is made from a Vogue pattern in the post war 'New Look' style, but the jacket itself still follows the ethos of the previous make do and mend era, as the crazy patchwork is made from dressmaking fabric scraps, and the lining is recycled from another garment. It was orginally worn with a white net dance dress with red spots.
The Quilters' Guild Collection is held by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
