Maker:
Herman Korf
Date:
1890 - 1900

Double sided wool quilt with fringe edging. One side is coloured plain wools in a tumbling blocks/stars design, and the reverse has a central star with rectangles in mainly grey, dark and check suiting fabrics.

It is believed to have been made by Herman Korf, a tailor who lived in Ongar with his wife Ellen. They married in 1890. It is thought that the materials for this coverlet came from left over pieces from garments which were available to Herman through his profession.
There is a second quilt in the collection which is believed to have been made by Ellen (Nellie) Korf (See the Nellie Korf Jubilee Quilt).
