This coverlet has a central panel with a printed image of Queen Victoria, probably celebrating her Jubilee in 1897. The frames contain large patches of printed and plain cottons that have been sewn on by machine and were most likely added later as repairs. The coverlet is backed with a piece of ivory silk which has square diamond hand quilting attaching it to a linen foundation piece. This coverlet was given to Barbara Bailey by her mother.
Barbara Bailey Collection.
Barbara Bailey was an enthusiastic quilter, teacher and a devoted founder member of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles. It is thanks to Barbara and her generous legacy that The Guild was able to set up the Quilt Museum and Gallery in 2008.
