This unusual piece of patchwork was made and worn by Barbara to The Quilters’ Guild AGM. The cape has appliqué flowers on one side and crazy, strip and brick design patchwork on the other side. It is gathered along the top with white cord drawstring.
Barbara made this cloak at a Quilters’ Guild three day workshop at the Wiltshire Adult college in November 1984, which she attended with her sister Dulcie. Pauline Adams, who was also on the course remembers sitting next to Barbara at the workshop and her starting to make this cloak. She remembers that everyone thought Barbara was being too ambitious in making a cape, but it certainly sparked a lot of interest when she wore it to The Guild’s AGM.

Barbara Bailey was an enthusiastic quilter, teacher and a devoted founder member of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles. It is thanks to Barbara and her generous legacy that The Guild was able to set up the Quilt Museum and Gallery in 2008.
