Bailey, Barbara
Date:
1987

This quilt is constructed from nine patch blocks of one inch patches of printed cotton, polycotton and linen fabrics, set alternately with three inch squares of cream cotton which have been quilted with acorns. The nine patch blocks are surrounded by a border of multicoloured and patterned one inch squares nine inches deep. The whole quilt is pieced and quilted by hand and is signed ‘Barbara Bailey 1987’.

It was exhibited at the Quilts UK exhibition in May 1990, when the theme was “150 years of the Postage Stamp”. The acorns represent the growth of the postal service from a small beginning to a large organisation.

Barbara Bailey Collection.

Barbara Bailey was an enthusiastic quilter, teacher and a devoted founder member of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles. It is thanks to Barbara and her generous legacy that The Guild was able to set up the Quilt Museum and Gallery in 2008.
