This South American inspired quilt shows a flautist who plays music for the animals. The flautist is known as Kokopelli, a fertility deity who dates back more than 3,000 years in the American Southwest (New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado). The fish figures come from Mimbres pottery designs (A.D. 1000-1130). The animals movements are suggested by the curved piecing whilst the music is suggested by the machine quilting. The fabrics are hand dyed and pieced, applied and embroidered by machine, with some hand stitching. Commissioned and presented by Region 3 (Hampshire, Wiltshire, Channel Islands and Isle of Wight).
A quilt from The Nineties Collection - quilts commissioned from quiltmakers working during the 1990s.
