This contemporary wholecloth quilt ‘Slip 1, Knit 1’ was made by Sandie Lush for The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles’ 7th National juried exhibition in 1999, which was held at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The location, the theme ‘Under the Covers’ and Sandie’s love of knitting combined together to produce a realistic looking quilted cricket sweater, but one large enough to place on a single bed. This piece uses traditional North Country cable quilting motif to emulate the cable knit of the jumper, and three quilted cotton reels emulating diamond shapes are quilted centre front. A large novelty clothes label (size XXL) with washing instructions features at the neckline. This piece then became the first in a series of sweater quilts as Sandie continued to enjoy creating quilts that explored knitted designs and textures.
