This iconic pieced design in pink and white cottons features many different quilting patterns. The borders contain cable/rope, swirls and roses and in the centre star there are long flowers and leaves.
Elizabeth Sanderson was an apprentice to the quilt marker and draper George Gardiner, and her iconic style and expert skills made her more famous then her tutor. Her reputation spread, and she set up her own business, taking live-in apprentices to learn the trade. She must have marked and produced hundreds of quilt tops, but very few can be attributed to her with any certainty as no quilts were ever signed. Elizabeth is best known for her Sanderson Star – a striking eight pointed star design usually pieced in two contrasting colours with alternating fabric colour borders.
