Pink and white wholecloth cotton quilt with an unusual quilting design. The central medallion features an art deco-style shell and pointed clamshell/feather-type shapes, whilst the outer border designs also follow a more pointed stylistic format than the usual North country quilt designs. The edge is a chain design and there is a square diamond infill in the centre.
The quilt was made by either Jane or Maggie Brown, who lived in South Shields. It is thought this quilt was one of two quilts made as a wedding gift for a family member. The two sisters produced many quilts, and had a room in their shared bungalow where they made quilts to order.
