Voices from The Inside is an exhibition of creative quilts hand-stitched by prisoners trained by Fine Cell Work and curated by volunteers Caroline Wilkinson and Linda LePard.
It gives a unique insight into the craftsmanship, hopes and daily reality of lives behind bars in British prisons. The exhibition is a tribute to what can be achieved in the austerity of prison.
“Voices from the Inside is a strong reminder to us of the power of stitch and its positive impact on our wellbeing. We are very pleased to be working with Fine Cell Work and to support such an inspiring charity that is changing peoples lives”, said Fiona Diaper, Museum Manager.
The exhibition features a fascinating collection of quilts including a touching Help for Heroes tribute to service personnel killed in action, a prestigious private commission for Stella McCartney, a memory quilt made from a husband’s silk tie collection and the remarkable Sleep Quilt fresh from the “Things We Do in Bed” exhibition curated by Tracy Chevalier.
The Quilters' Guild Collection is held by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
