In 2010, the Quilt Museum and Gallery was successful in receiving a small grant from Renaissance Yorkshire to fund an oral history project called 'Quilt Stories'. This funding allowed the Museum to purchase recording equipment and funded training in oral history practices.
Since the project began, Museum volunteers have interviwed quilt historian Maxine March and quilter Magie Relph. We look forward to sharing more 'quilt stories' from Janet Twinn and Sara Impey whose quilts are on display in the current 'Quilt Art at 25' exhibition.
In addition to sharing stories of current quilters, the Museum will also share interviews conducted in the past by dedicated Quilters' Guild members. The first interview we are pleased to share with you from the Quilters' Guild archive was conducted by Guild Member Margaret Bauldreay with Quilters' Hall of Fame member Lucy Hilty. You can read an extract of the interivew here.
The Quilters' Guild Collection is held by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
