New Acquisitions
One of the latest additions to The Quilters’ Guild Collection at the Quilt Museum and Gallery is a colourful hand pieced small squares patchwork top made during the 1930s. Each of the small patchwork pieces measures just 1 inch square, and are made from different coloured and patterned dress and furnishing fabrics, arranged in a ‘Trip of the World’ block design. The card templates are still intact in the reverse, one of which is a piece of packaging from ‘Imperial tobacco’. The patchwork was made by Annie Rapson (née Reynolds) who lived in Hunton, Maidstone. Other items recently accepted into the collection include a Turkey Red and white cotton signature coverlet from Sheriff Hutton Wesleyan church and a crazy patchwork coverlet made from pieces of pink satin corset fabric with green decorative embroidery. Look out for these new objects on the museum collections website in the near future!
The Quilters' Guild Collection is held by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.
