Visitors are welcome to come along and explore a selection of items from The Quilters' Guild Collection in a series of open days during 2019. This year celebrates the 40th Anniversary of The Quilters' Guild Collection, and all of our open days are themed to explore different decades of the Collection.
The Collection is open for one Wednesday per month and the dates and specific subject theme can be found both listed below and on our Exhibitions page. Visitors are welcome between 10am and 4pm.
March 20th - Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 1980s, ranging from tiny shadow quilted baby slippers to wholecloth pieces made for the Claridges Hotel in the 1930s.
April 17th - Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 1990s, including some intricate pieced and painted Victorian hexagons and a stunning floral log cabin celebration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
May 22nd - Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 1990s, including some intricate pieced and painted Victorian hexagons and a stunning floral log cabin celebration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
June 12th - Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 1990s, including some intricate pieced and painted Victorian hexagons and a stunning floral log cabin celebration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
July 10th -Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 2000s - including a vibrant and coloured late Victorian silk Kaleidoscope patchwork and a contemporary piece by Quilt Artist Sarah Impey
August 28th -Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 2000s - including a vibrant and coloured late Victorian silk Kaleidoscope patchwork and a contemporary piece by Quilt Artist Sarah Impey
October 9th -Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 2010s, including a late 18th century printed cottons patchwork tester bed hanging and a Red and White Signature Quilt from nearby Sheriff Hutton.
November 6th -Visitors will be able to see a selection of pieces collected by The Guild in the 2010s, including a late 18th century printed cottons patchwork tester bed hanging and a Red and White Signature Quilt from nearby Sheriff Hutton.
A further opportunity to see different items is available on our Library open mornings on the last Friday of every month. Library volunteers will be available if you wish to ask any questions or look at any books from our extensive Patchwork and Quilting library.
